So this little lady had to come back to my studio for a second time after her hunger took over the original session. She was on a big growth spurt, wanted nothing but to eat. Well she came back and rocked it! We even captured a few with big sis! I captured big sis over the last two years so it’s always great to see another family member added and dotted on.
This past year has been great and has also had its challenges. My first full year with my family of 3 and balancing a full time job along with my photography business has been challenging. At times I would get into a lull without any photo work and found myself doubting whether I was good enough to carry on with it. Sometimes throwing in the towel is just easier. I had the perfect excuse because it takes away time from my son and husband which is pretty valuable.
But I couldn’t. And my husband couldn’t let me succumb to self doubt either. The industry has grown so much, every year there are 10 new “professional” photographers trying to make it by offering insanely cheap sessions with digital images included. I know, I was there almost 5 years ago. I was also educated on how to make it and keep going by raising your prices along with your experience. Just like any trade, the longer you take to master it, the more your time and skill is worth. People who appreciate and respect my work will keep coming back and even if that is 10 people I’m okay with that, to a point. To the point where I need to continue to push myself to be better and learn more in an ever-changing industry. If I do that, I will have more clients and thus be successful to my satisfaction.
What am I trying to say? I could have and did think about giving up this year and I’m happy I decided not to. I love photography and the endless outlet it provides me. I’m a creative person, I need to have a creative outlet.
Here are some of the wonderful clients I had the pleasure and honor of photographing this past year…including my most handsomeness son 🙂
Here is to 2015, you were good to me and I’m looking forward to 2016. I wish all of you a healthy and happy 2016!
